The York University Lions wrestling team travels to London, Ontario, for the 2026 OUA Wrestling Championships on February 7, 2026. Hosted by the Western Mustangs at Alumni Hall, the tournament features eleven participating teams from across the province. The Lions are looking to improve their performance from the 2025 championships, where both the men's and women's programs earned sixth-place finishes.

Prabhleen Randhawa leads the women's contingent in the 65kg weight class. Randhawa enters the competition as the reigning OUA silver medalist and has utilized the current season to further develop her technical skills and resilience. Her previous championship experience serves as a foundational element for the Lions' women's roster.

In the men's 125kg division, first-year student-athlete Samuel Awonuga enters his debut OUA championship following a successful rookie campaign. Awonuga secured gold medals at both the McMaster Open and the Western Open this season. His performance has been defined by consistency and composure against experienced heavyweight opponents, positioning him as a key competitor in the provincial championship meet.

The women's team outlook is defined by steady progression and a focused approach to provincial competition. The group has shown consistent improvement over the course of the schedule and intends to leverage its returning experience against the OUA field. The men's team, characterized as a developing young group, has focused on maintaining training standards and achieving complete performances. The primary objective for the men's side is to execute a match-by-match strategy across the entire lineup. Heading into the weekend, the central focus for the program is whether this combination of veteran experience and rookie momentum will result in an advancement in the overall team standings.
