York University Lions men's wrestler Wesam Sa'ed earned himself an OUA second team all-star selection at last month's OUA championships in London.

The rookie from nearby Mississauga, Ont., took home a second-place finish in the men's 82kg category, securing one of the two Lions medals at the event. He took down Anthony Nighnbor of the Algoma Thunderbirds in the opening round by fall at the 2:16 mark. He then fell in the second round, by fall, to Lakehead's Chase Birch after a feisty 5:16 bout. However, the business economics major got back to business, besting Austin Brabant by fall just 1:52 in and then beat Titus Diceman of Carleton after just 91 seconds.

However, Sa'ed was forced to settle for silver after being injured in the Diceman match, with Lukas Geske of the host Western Mustangs taking gold by injury default. With the silver, he earns an OUA all-star nod as a rookie in his first ever OUA championship. He is the first Lion men's wrestler to win a silver or better – and thus be named a conference all-star – since Shevonne Witter-Watts was a silver medallist in the 2019 meet.
