Last Meetings
The Lions and Gryphons faced off in the pre-season in Guelph, Ont., at the end of September, with the Gryphons emerging victorious by a 4-3 score after netting the winning goal in the final seconds of the game. Last year, the Lions faced the Gryphons in back-to-back games when Guelph was ranked No. 5. They lost the first in overtime by the same 4-3 score and the second 4-1.

- Guelph was the best team offensively and defensively last year. Their 77 goals scored were eight more than any other team in the conference and the 32 allowed were six less than the rest of their opponents.
- The Gryphons have been the preeminent team in the OUA over the last two years, winning back-to-back championships and finishing first in the standings both years. Their first title in 2016 was the program's first since 1998.

G Valerie Lamenta – The fourth-year goaltender is a former OUA and U SPORTS player of the year in 2015-16 and was second in the OUA in goals against average (1.39) and save percentage (.945) last year.
F Kaitlin Lowy – The team's leading scorer last year with 29 points (16 goals, 13 assists) in 24 games, ranking her third in the OUA. She scored a goal and an assist in the team's opener on Thursday night.
