The York University Lions women's hockey team will look to pick up its first win of the season this weekend when the squad returns to Canlan Ice Sports to face the Laurier Golden Hawks and Waterloo Warriors.

Last Meetings
The Lions swept the season series between the two teams last year, winning the first match-up 3-2 in a shootout on the road and then cruising to a 4-0 victory in the rematch at home. Including those two victories, the Lions have won three of the last four contests. Prior to that, the Golden Hawks won 14 in a row dating back to the 2008-09 season.
The Warriors defeated the Lions in both of their meetings last year. The Lions earned a point in the first meeting, falling 2-1 in overtime, and lost 4-1 in the second. Before Waterloo's recent success, the Lions won three in a row and four of five over the previous three seasons.

Waterloo
- The Warriors began the year with a narrow 1-0 loss to UOIT in the season opener but have bounced back with two straight wins, defeating Queen's 3-2 in overtime and cross-town rival Laurier 2-1 last week.
- The Warriors are coming off their best season in program history, where they advanced to the OUA semifinals for the first time after taking out Western in the quarter-finals. They got to Game 3 of the semis before being eliminated by the two-time defending champion Guelph Gryphons.
- Waterloo scored fewer goals last year than any other playoff team, with just 50 in 24 games, but their 43 goals allowed was the fourth-fewest in the conference.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
York
F Erin Locke – The team's leading scorer as a sophomore last year. She scored her first goal of the season last weekend against Queen's for her first point of the year.
F Brooke Anderson – The rookie forward leads the Lions in scoring after five games with three assists. She had two against Ryerson in the first game of her career in the season opener.
Laurier
F Jaden Head – Has Laurier's lone goal on the season thus far. Last year she finished her rookie campaign with six points (one goal, five assists).
RW Emily Woodhouse – Led the Golden Hawks in scoring as a rookie last year, tallying 12 points (10 goals, two assists) while playing in every game.
Waterloo
G Stephanie Sluys – Waterloo's reigning female athlete of the year ranks sixth in the OUA in goals against average (1.02) and tied for sixth in save percentage (.957) this season. She was part of the Canadian team that won the silver medal at the FISU championships in Kazakhstan last February.
F Rachel Marriott – The team's leading scorer last year with 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 21 games, she has three points (one goal, two assists) so far this season. She was also on the Canadian team that won FISU silver last winter.
