The York University Lions women's basketball team returns home for the first time in 2018 this weekend and will welcome the two teams from the nation's capital in the Ottawa Gee-Gees and No. 4 nationally-ranked Carleton Ravens.

The Gee-Gees have won each of the last two match-ups with the Lions, including last year by a score of 62-54 at the Tait McKenzie Centre. The last victory by the Lions came in 2014, when they posted a big 60-51 in their senior game.

- The perennially strong Gee-Gees got off to a slow start to the year, losing five of their first eight games. However, they enter this weekend riding a four-game winning streak with victories over Brock, McMaster, Toronto and Ryerson.
- The Gee-Gees are a strong defensive team and rank third in the OUA with only 56.6 points per game allowed. That unit has made up for a struggling offence that ranks just 11th in the conference with 59.9 points per game.
- After facing the Lions on Friday, the Gee-Gees will head to Kingston, Ont., to face the No. 7 Queen's Gaels the following night.

- The Ravens are a perfect 12-0 to start the year and have dominated throughout the season, outscoring their opponents by more than 27 points per game. Last weekend they got past Ryerson by seven points and then rolled to a 66-44 win over Toronto.
- The Ravens have won 30 straight regular-season games dating back to their season opener last year, which they lost to Algoma in a shocker.
- The undefeated Ravens lead the OUA in points scored and points allowed. Defensively, they are giving up only 46.8 points per game, a mark that is eight better than any other team in the conference. They are also scoring 74.1 points per game.
- The Ravens are the defending OUA champions after winning their first ever title last year. They went on to win the bronze medal at the U SPORTS championships.

Lindsay Shotbolt – York's female athlete of the week after averaging 13.5 points and 19.5 rebounds last weekend, including 25 boards against Nipissing. She is one of only two players in the OUA averaging a double-double this season, ranking second in the conference in rebounds (11.3) and fifth in scoring (16.5 points). Saturday's game against Carleton is her first against her former team, as she previously spent four years with the Ravens and was a three-time OUA all-star.
