Three members of the York Lions field were recognized by the OUA on Tuesday for their outstanding seasons as
Jaslan Stirling,
Sara Vollmerhausen and
Amber Sandhu were named OUA all-stars.
Stirling picks up her second consecutive OUA all-star after winning one last year along with being named the OUA's co-MVP and rookie of the year. The Mississauga, Ont. native was on fire the entire season, scoring 22 goals in 12 games. Her goal total dwarfed the competition as she bested second place finisher Katherine MacMillan of Guelph by six goals and scored more goals than three of the teams in the league. Stirling scored hat-tricks on five separate occasions this year and was named the U SPORTS female athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 24.
Joining Stirling on the all-star team is defenceman Vollmerhausen, who had her best year yet during her fifth and final season with the Lions. The Newmarket, Ont. native has been a strong leader both on and off the field for the young squad and scored her lone goal of the season in the second game of the year against McGill. Her on-field contributions this season have been highlighted by her key defensive ability and distribution skills on offence.
Rookie forward Sandhu has gotten off to a great start in her Lions career and has been one of the top players on the team all season. Sandhu, from Delta, Alta., has scored four goals in her freshman season and has proved to be another key cog key on both sides of the ball with her all-star speed, skill, and play-making ability.
