The York Lions Field Hockey Team will look to finish their regular season on a strong note as they prepare for the upcoming OUA Playoffs. The Lions face a double header this weekend as they look to secure the number one seed after defeating and surpassing Waterloo for first in the conference last weekend. With two wins, York would become the host of the 2026 OUA Field Hockey Championship.

Firstly, on Saturday at 1 PM EST, the Lions will travel to London to take on the Western Mustangs. The Mustangs have had a rough season so far, going winless with a 0-8-2 record into their final weekend. Western has lost four of their last five games, including a 2-1 loss to this same York Lions squad just two weeks ago. York will look to secure another win against the Mustangs to finish out the season strong.

On Sunday, York will then host the Queen's Gaels at Alumni Field in Toronto. This match against Queen's will see the Lions celebrate their graduating class and those leaving the program after this season.

Queen's has also not had a great season either, going into this weekend with a 3-7 record and on a three-game losing streak. One of those losses also came against this Lions squad two weeks ago as the first loss in their three-game slide by a score of 1-0.

Both teams will have a tough time scoring on York as they allow the fewest goals per game in the OUA with an average of 0.60 goals allowed per contest. On the contrary, Western allows an OUA high of 5.83 while Queen's allows 2.12. York also maintains the highest save percentage in the OUA at 77.8%, as they've been a shutdown unit all season.

Both games the Lions last played against these teams ended in a one goal victory, so they have been close games this season. York will look to send a message and close out the season strong with two wins. If York can secure wins in both, they will officially be the hosts of the 2026 OUA Playoffs on October 24th and 25th and build the proper momentum to defend their OUA Championship.
