A small contingent of Lions wrestled this weekend at the McMaster Open in Hamilton, Ont., with two of the three competitors bringing back medals.

Third-year wrestler Josh Malu led the way for the team with a 1
st place finish in the men's 57kg category. Malu defeated a pair of Marauders on his way to the finals, beating Francesco Fortino 12-0 in the opening round and Spencer Lee 11-2 in the semi-finals. In the gold medal match, Malu claimed the top step on the podium by defeating Garette Saunders of the Brock Badgers by a score of 8-3.

From the women's team, rookie Bailey Agard continued her strong start to the season, with a bronze medal in the women's 51kg category. Agard had a big win in the bronze medal final beating Kyla Dube Snow of the Concordia Stingers, who was a 2018 junior national silver medalist. This is second consecutive weekend Agard has brought home a medal, as she won the gold in her first ever meet with the Lions last week at the Concordia Open

Rounding out the competitors for the Lions was Mary Adarkwa who finished in fourth place in the women's 73 kg division.

York will have a larger group of athletes competing next weekend at the Ryerson Open. The meet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 10. Â
