TWO HOME GAMES ON TAP THIS WEEKEND FOR LIONS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM

The York University Lions women's basketball team will look to build off their first win of the season in their last game, when they welcome two teams from the OUA West Division to the Tait McKenzie Centre this weekend. The Lions will host the Algoma Thunderbirds on Friday night and the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday for their fourth and fifth games of the young season.

Last Meetings
The Lions had their way with the Algoma Thunderbirds in their only game last season, winning by a score of 86-46 on the road. Lions co-captain Haley Bowie had a strong game, scoring 16 points while shooting 50% from the field.
 
The Gryphons topped the Lions 73-54 last year in their lone contest. The Lions have struggled against Guelph in recent years, with their last victory coming by way of a 54-45 win in the opening game of the 2013-14 season.

  • After facing the Lions on Friday, the Thunderbirds will head to Kingston, Ont., to face the Queen's Gaels the following night.
 
Guelph
  • Guelph ranks fourth in the OUA in points per game averaging 73.5 and sixth in points allowed per game with 62.5
  • Rebounding has been a strength this season for the Gryphons, as they rank fourth in the OUA in offensive rebounds (16.8), defensive rebounds (28.8) and total rebounds (45.5) per game.
  • The Gryphons will come to York from Kingston, Ont., where they will face the Queen's Gaels on Friday night.

F Lauren Golding – After missing the first game of the season with an injury, Golding returned last weekend and averaged 16.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game in two contests.
 
G Emma Jonas – The third-year transfer from UBC has been solid in three games for the Lions averaging 10.3 points per game on 43.8% shooting.
 
Algoma
 
C Dionne Martin – Leads the Thunderbirds with 10.5 points per game while contributing four rebounds and two steals per game.
 
F Rebecca Wylie – Leading the team with 6.0 rebounds per game and is the second-leading scorer with 10.0 points per game.
 

Guelph
 
G Burke Bechard – The sophomore guard is leading the Gryphons in points (14.8), rebounds (7.8), assists (2.8), and steals (3.5) per game so far this season.
 
F Ivana Vujadinovic – Is off to good start this season averaging 13.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 44.4% from behind the three-point line.
