The York Lions wrestling teams brought home some hardware from the Brock Open on Saturday, as Bailey Agard, Lynelle Vassell and Shevonne Witter-Watts each won medals and the women's team finished in third-place overall for the meet.

Agard continued her outstanding rookie season with the Lions, bringing home the silver medal in the women's 51kg weight class. Her biggest win of the tournament came against Sam Ramono of the host Badgers, who was an OUA gold medalist and U SPORT silver medalist last year, in addition to winning the Junior national championship. Agard dominated Ramono winning 10-0 in their match. Her lone loss of the tournament came in the first round of the tournament to Stefana Jelacic from the River Falls wrestling club, one of the most successful wrestling clubs in the USA.

Agard has now medaled in all five tournaments she has participated in this season. Vassell picked up the other medal for the Lions women's squad, a bronze in teh 82kg category. Other results for the Lions on the women's side, which helped them claim third-place in the team standings, included Gurleen Tak in fourth-place (48kg), Christelle Lans in fifth-place (67 kg), and Mary Adarkwa in sixth-place (72kg). The host Badgers finished in first overall in the women's standings followed by River Falls in second-place. Â

On the men's side of the mat, Witter-Watts led the Lions squad with a bronze medal in the 57kg category. Other results for the Lions men included a fifth-place finish for Paul Nguyen (54kg) and sixth-place finishes for Nashane Ralph (61kg), Jasman Gill (76kg), and Peter Tsarev (120kg).

The men's team finished in 11
th place in the team standings with the Badgers also finishing in first-place on the men's side.

The next tournament on the Lions schedule is the Guelph Open next weekend on Saturday, Jan. 19.
