The York University Lions women's basketball team will be back on home court this weekend for two games when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday morning and the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday evening at the Tait McKenzie Centre. Friday's contest is the Lions School Day Game in which elementary and high school students from around the York community will be attending the game in what should be a large and enthusiastic crowd full of young Lions supporters. On Saturday, the team will host its annual Shoot for a Cure game, where all proceeds from contests and donations will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The Lions faced off with the Voyageurs in their second game of 2019 and fell by a score of 64-46. Prior to that loss, the Lions had a three-game winning streak against the Voyageurs dating back to the 2016-17 season.

York and Nipissing met on Jan. 4 and the game went down to the wire with the Lakers pulling out a close 65-61 victory. The Lions had an 11-point lead at the half in that game, but the Lakers clawed their way back in the second half and pulled out the four-point victory. Â
