LIONS LOSE 2-1 IN HOME OPENER AGAINST NO. 9 RAMS

The York University Lions men's hockey team fell to the No. 9 nationally ranked Ryerson Rams by a 2-1 score during their electrifying home opener on Friday night at Canlan Ice Sports.

The Rams opened up with the first goal of the game against the Lions, scored by Gregory DiTomaso. But York's first-year forward Dylan Riley managed to answer with a goal less than two minutes later during the high-intensity first period, which was assisted by forward Peter De Coppi.

The Lions and the Rams tied 1-1 after the first period.

In the second period, though Ryerson was able to fire 13 shots and York was in close proximity with 10, neither team was able to register a goal. They remained tied 1-1 going into the final period.

It was, however, in the third period when Ryerson was able to get a goal past York goaltender Mack Shields, who was able to save an impressive 38 out of 40 of Ryerson's shots on goal. Hayden McCool scored on the power play seven minutes into the frame for what stood as the winning goal.

The Lions dropped to 1-3-0 with the loss, while the Rams improved to 2-2-0 after the win.

The Lions take on the defending OUA champion Queen's Gaels tomorrow night at Canlan Ice Sports. The game will commence at 7:15pm.
