Box Score The No. 2 nationally ranked York University Lions men's soccer team booked their ticket to the OUA Final Four on Sunday night as
Christopher Jacovou scored a hat-trick to help the Lions take a 4-1 win over the McMaster Marauders in their quarter-final match at Alumni Field.
Jacovou's scoring action began 15 minutes into the game with an assist from
Cristian Cavallini giving Jacovou's his first goal of the postseason. Less than 10 minutes later, Javocou's second goal was assisted by
Vaughan Bianchi and
Jorgo Nika as the crowd cheered on the Lions who now led 2-0.
Towards the end of the first half York's
Eddie Lay got fouled in the 18-yard box, as Jacovou stepped up to the spot to take the penalty. With two goals registered in the game, Jacovou put away his third giving him the hat-trick adding to an already stellar season for the graduating athlete.
Lions forward
Merci Yuma, the top scorer for his side, was able to add a fourth goal with the help of another Bianchi assist. Bianchi managed to get the ball all the way from York's side to McMaster's end to assist Yuma with his ninth goal of the year. With minutes remaining in the match, the Lions conceded a goal after Marauders forward Dusan Kovacevic robbed Lions keeper
Mike Argyrides of another clean sheet. However, the lone goal would not be enough to help them beat the Lions who have now gone unbeaten for their 51
st game in a row.
The Lions have now earned the right to host the OUA Final Four, where they will face off against the Toronto Varsity Blues at Alumni Field.
