The York University Lions cross country teams kept their season rolling on Saturday at the Don Mills Open with the women finishing fourth overall as a team in Waterloo, Ont.
Proving to be the standout of the season, rookie
Carmen Krawczynski Gonzalez was once again the first Lion to cross the line, completing the 8km race in a time of 32:54. Krawcyznski Gonzalez finished the race ninth overall, the first top-10 finish by a female cross country runner since
Giulia Ferrante finished eighth at the same meet in 2012.
Placing just inside the top 20 were
Anna Prouzou and
Meaghan Evon who crossed the line in a time of 33:38 and 34:22, good enough for 14
th and 19
th respectively.
Also running for the Lions were
Rebecca Wheeler running 35:16,
Patricia Rasowski in 36:52, and
Emily Fraschetti rounding out the women's squad in 44:06.
Representing the men were
Maxime St. Jules and
Chris Basso who finished 37
th and 55
th overall, completing the 8km race in a time of 28:35 and 29:47 respectively.
The cross country teams will continue their season in Hamilton, Ont., this Friday as they compete at the Marauders Bayfront Open, their last meet before the OUA Championships which will also be held in Hamilton in three weeks' time.
