All-world athlete Pierce LePage led the way for the York University Lions track & field team this weekend at the Spire NCAA Division 1 Indoor Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.

LePage picked up two medals for the Lions, the first a gold medal with a leap of 7.42m in the men's long jump. The jump qualified him for the U SPORT championships and leaves him ranked first overall in Canada. He followed that up with a silver medal in the shot put with a season's best throw of 14.01m.

Other podium finishes for the Lions on the men's team included Abdiaziz Ali with the silver medal in the 600m with a new personal best of 1:19.99 and Jason Clare with a bronze medal in the pole vault with a new personal best jump of 4.73m.

On the women's side, Kaitlin Brooks, the defending U SPORTS silver medalist in the shot put, claimed the bronze medal with a throw of 13.68m. The toss was a season's best performance for Brooks and she is now ranked sixth in the country and has qualified for this year's U SPORTS championships.

Other notable performances this weekend came from Monique Simon-Tucker who ran a season's best in the 60m sprint with a time of 7.73 seconds, the women's 4x400m relay quartet of Nicolette Witherspoon, Mikeisha Bobb, Christy Ihunaegbo and Simone Da Silva who raced their way to season's best time of 3:48.45 which now ranks them fourth in the country, the men's 4x400m relay led by Zeon Bass, Daniele Orsini, Mark Hutchinson and Tohma Van Bergen who ran a season's best time of 3:19.68, and jumper Naomi Henry who  soared to new heights in the women's pole vault with a new personal best of 3.67m.

In addition to the five medals the Lions won this weekend, the team achieved 43 OUA qualifiers, two U SPORT qualifiers, 17 season's best and eight personal best performances.Â

Next weekend the Lions have two meets on the schedule, the Hal Brown Last Chance meet at the University of Toronto and the Guelph Last Chance meet at the University of Guelph.
