This is the first matchup of the regular season between the cross-town rival Lions and Rams. The two squads went 1-1 against each other in the pre-season and also split the season series last year, with the Rams winning 7-2 in their first matchup and the Lions paying them back with a 3-2 win in their second game.

The Lions beat the Laurentian Voyageurs 1-0 on the road in overtime in November. In that win forward Erin Locke scored the winner at 2:40 of the overtime period with an assist going to linemate Courtney Gardiner. Lions goaltender Eva Hall made 26 saves to pick up the shutout.
