The York University Lions wrestling team took on the best in the nation this weekend at the 2019 U SPORTS championships.
Mary Adarkwa led the way the team with a fifth-place finish in the women's 72kg division. Adarkwa defeated OUA silver medalist Ashley Gravelle of the Lakehead Thunderwolves by a score of 10-0 in her first-round match and wound up in fifth-place in her weight category.
Other Lions competing this weekend were Shevonne Witter-Watts, who finished in sixth-place in the men's 57kg category, Nashane Ralph, who also finished in sixth-place in the men's 61kg category, and Lynelle Vassell who finished in seventh-place in the women's 82kg category.
The Lions picked up some hardware off the mat as well, as the U SPORTS Student-Athlete Community Service Honours went to the Lions Shadab Rohalia of York Rohalia, a fourth-year business student from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, joined the Lions wrestling squad this season. He has worked to develop an Enactus chapter at York, taking on projects that benefit the community through entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, financial literacy, and environmental sustainability.
