The York University Lions women's rugby team began the 2019 season with a lopsided victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues, winning 59-12 at Varsity Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The result was never really in doubt as the Lions scored just one minute into the game and built a 31-0 lead in the first half.

Lauryn Legerton scored the opening try and added another early in the second half to record 10 points on the day.
Natasha Naismith converted six kicks and added a try of her own to lead all players with 17 points.

Also scoring tries for the Lions were

Ally Govier,
Denise Laghayi,
Faith Williams and
Jessica Ho.

Both of Toronto's tries were scored by Khadijat Dako, while Monika Hirsch had the lone conversion.

The Lions will make their 2019 home debut next weekend when they return to Alumni Field to face the Trent Excalibur on Friday night at 7pm.
