York University Lions wrestlers
Brea Rodgers and
Bailey Agard finished on the podium at the Brock Invitational meet in St. Catharines, Ont., on Saturday.
Rodgers, in her first season of competition with the Lions, won the silver medal in the 59kg weight class. Her only loss of the day came to Hannah Taylor, a multi-medallist at past OUA and U SPORTS championships.
Agard, meanwhile, won the bronze medal in the 51kg division. Wrestling against Emily Duchesne from the Algoma Thunderbirds in her final match, she won a narrow 5-2 decision to put herself on the podium.
Also competing at the meet was
Stephan Niron in the men's 54kg weight class, where he finished in fifth place.
Lions assistant coach
Alexandria Town, a former OUA and U SPORTS medallist and now one of the top wrestlers in Canada, was the main event for a wrestling showcase held in Oakville, Ont., this past weekend. She was up against four-time U SPORTS champion Jessica Bouillette of the Brock Wrestling Club, and wrestling at a weight class higher than her usual, but still won with a quick first-round stoppage.
The Lions will next head to Guelph, Ont., for the Guelph Open on Saturday.
