LIONS HEAD TO NATION'S CAPITAL FOR OPENING PLAYOFF GAME

The postseason begins in the nation's capital for the York University Lions women's basketball team, as they head to Carleton's Ravens Nest for the first game of the OUA playoffs Wednesday night to take on the higher-seeded Ravens.

The must-win OUA first round contest tips off at 7pm, and Lions fans are able to catch the game on OUA.tv.

Despite York (11-11) holding a worse record than Carleton (15-7), the only game between the two clubs came down to the wire during the regular season. On Oct. 23, the Ravens pulled out a 57-53 nail-biter over the Lions, in a game where York outscored their opposition from Ottawa in two of the four quarters.

While the Lions had a .500 record to close the season, they did compile two lengthy win streaks – both a three-game and four-game streak in December and January respectively. But following those successes, they posted same-length losing streaks directly after. Their four-game losing skid was halted in their second to last game of the season, during an impressive 40-point win over Ontario Tech last Wednesday.

York's opponent has also responded to some recent adversity. Since losing to uOttawa by two points in the Capital Hoops Classic, the Ravens rebounded to win the final two games of their 2019-20 regular season by at least six points. It helped them achieve second position in the OUA East, behind only the Gee-Gees.

Both teams showcased statistical leaders during the OUA's regular season. For York, Lauren Golding averaged 10.1 rebounds per game, second in the conference. Carleton guard Tatyanna Burke is dangerous from the field – she posted a 56.3 field goal percentage on the campaign, also second in the OUA.

Burke, Golding, and their respective teams will have a chance to advance to the quarter-finals with a victory in Wednesday's contest. The game's winner then heads to Montpetit Hall to play uOttawa on Saturday, Feb. 20.
