LOCKE WINS MARION HILLIARD AWARD, DAVISON NAMED OUA ALL-STAR

York University Lions women's hockey player Erin Locke was named the recipient of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Marion Hilliard Award on Wednesday, while teammate Taylor Davison was recognized as a first-team all-star.

Locke, a fifth-year forward and team captain from Toronto, is the second straight Lion to win the award, following in the footsteps of former captain Jenna Gray. She is the third recipient in program history, the first being Autumn Mills in 2011.

Davison, meanwhile, is an OUA award winner for the second time in her career after earning OUA all-rookie team honours in 2017. She is the first OUA first-team all-star for the Lions since Kristen Barbara and Lisa Stathopulos were both recognized in 2015.

Locke is a tremendous all-around student-athlete who has excelled on the ice, in the classroom and in the community. After a summer in which she played on the U SPORTS all-star team at the Hockey Canada Summer Development Series, she recorded nine points in the regular season this year and another five in four playoff games. She is studying kinesiology and health science and is a four-time U SPORTS academic all-Canadian and on pace to achieve the honour in her fifth year as well.

Away from York, Locke volunteers weekly at the St. John's Rehabilitation Centre / Sunnybrook Health Science Centre working mostly with neurology and stroke patients. She is actively involved in the Lions' ongoing relationship with HEROS (Hockey Education Reaching Out Society) which provides outreach support for local community kids to play hockey that otherwise would not have the opportunity to play the sport.

Davison, a fourth-year defender from Oakville, Ont., had a breakout campaign in 2019-20. She improved her point production by 14 this year, going from six to 20 and leading both the Lions and all defenders in the conference in scoring, finishing eighth overall in the OUA. She netted a hat trick in a win over Western in early November and ended the season with six multi-point games in total.

She has also been strong in the playoffs, picking up three goals (all on the power play) and adding an assist in four games.
