CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: GLORY ON THE LINE AS TORONTO AND YORK CLASH IN OUA FINAL

The York University Lions field hockey team will have to have one word on their mind as they take the field this weekend against the No. 1 nationally-ranked Toronto Varsity Blues: Redemption.

This comes after the Blues ended York's season in 2021, with a 2-1 win over the Lions in the OUA semifinal. This year, the stakes are higher for the two teams, but the opponent remains the same.

York still faces the daunting task of shutting down Sam McCrory, who led the OUA with 20 goals in this regular season. She and the Blues haven't lost a game, and that includes 3-0 and 3-1 wins over the Lions on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 respectively.

However, the Lions are no slouches on their own offensively. Recently coined OUA first-team all-star Frankie St. Louis was the runner up to McCrory in goals this season. The Lions also finished directly behind U of T in the OUA's overall standings, with 25 points to the Blues' 31. Despite both competing in the OUA East, this contest is clearly between the two best teams in the conference.

The Lions and Blues will have their championship game broadcasted live at OUA.tv. If fans wish to attend in person, Toronto hosts the final at 1 pm on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Back Campus Fields on the campus of the University of Toronto.
