The York University Lions women's hockey team may be young, but they are here to compete.
The team proved as much this past weekend, in a split of two games against nationally-ranked opponents. First, it was a 3-1 win against what were then the No. 4-ranked Nipissing Lakers on Friday night. That result dropped the Lakers all the way down to No. 8 in the country in the latest top 10 released Tuesday.
Then, on Sunday afternoon, the Lions were beaten by the Waterloo Warriors, who entered proceedings Sunday as the No. 7 squad in the nation (they're now up to No. 5). Considering the quality of the competition they faced, head coach Dan Church and company can be nothing but happy with the weekend that was.
They now get set for a back-to-back with less than 24 hours between games. The Lions first finish their three-game road trip against the Queen's Gaels on Saturday before returning home to host the Brock Badgers in a late-afternoon affair on Sunday.

#24 LEXI ANNONECH: Second-year forward… Has only played in four of York's six games so far, but has produced when in the lineup… Although she's still without a goal, she does have three assists… riding a personal three-game point streak, which continued Sunday with an assist on Anderson's goal.
