The York University Lions women's basketball team suffered their first home loss of 2022-23 falling to the McMaster Marauders after the visitors put up a big third quarter en route to a 87-66 final Saturday evening at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams engaged in a tight first quarter, exchanging runs. The Lions took charge first, putting together a 10-0 run with Kiara Leveridge and Lauren Golding leading the way with seven and six points, respectively.
  • With a timely 13-2 run of their own and converting on four three-point shots, the Marauders took hold of the game and led 22-16 at the end of the first.
  • The second quarter mirrored the game play of the first, with both squads responding to each other with 22 points each in the quarter. That allowed the Marauders to hold their slim lead into halftime.
  • McMaster returned to court with high momentum, jumping off to a 10-1 run early in the third, setting a pace the Lions were unable to match. After outshooting the Lions 24-11 in the quarter, the Marauders extended their lead to 68-48 at the end of the third.
  • The big third-quarter performance set the tone for the Marauders, putting the Lions out of reach. McMaster went on to improve their record to 6-4 following the decisive 87-66 victory.
