Despite putting forth a valiant effort against the OUA's defending champions, the Toronto Varsity Blues, York University Lions field hockey fell short 3-0 Wednesday night in Toronto, Ont.
The loss came as the first of the season for the Lions, dropping their season record to 3-1-1, despite that leading the OUA East division with 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first half, Sam McCrory opened the scoring for the Blues, as she converted a penalty shot to take a 1-0 lead.
- Molly Koop took over for the Blues in the third quarter and capitalized on a penalty corner to double Toronto's advantage. Just three minutes later, Koop once again found her way past the York jerseys, scoring her second of the night to lift the Blues past the Lions 3-0.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Lions will wrap up their three-game road trip in Kingston, Ont., on Friday, Sept. 30, as they take on the Queen's Gaels in a home-and-home series. The match is set for 7pm at Tindall Field, before they return to home turf on Sunday, Oct. 2 to take on the Gaels for the second contest of the two-game series.
