The York University Lions women's basketball team is in a battle for a playoff spot as the season nears its end. York is 11th in the OUA, a game ahead of Nipissing and Laurentian. They're also just two games behind 8th place, and a potential first-round home game.
Â
They can do their playoff hopes a big favour this weekend when they host the Lakehead Thunderwolves – who boast just a single win in 14 games – in a two-game weekend set. Lakehead's lone victory came at the expense of the 4-12 Toronto Varsity Blues by a 78-71 score.
Â
The Lions, meanwhile, dropped another tight one Saturday night at Brock, a 69-62 loss to the Badgers. Four of York's last five games have been decided by single digits – three of those by two or less. The Lions have had their fair share of tough luck, but have a softer schedule to finish out the season – with the exception of undefeated Queens, the number one team in the country – and a real chance to gain ground in the standings if they can bank some wins down the stretch.
