The York University Lions women's hockey team continues their four-game road trip away at Laurier and Waterloo this week. The Lions secured a home victory against the Ridgebacks before dropping a hard-fought away game against the Badgers, and are in search of going on a winning spurt.
On Friday evening, the Lions hosted the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in the OUA Pride game. The game started slow but the Lions secured a late first period lead by
Julia Cuccia with just over 3 minutes to play, heading into the first intermission up 1-0.
Alexa Giantsopoulos doubled the lead before Cuccia netted her second of the game to lead 3-0 after 40 minutes. The Lions added one more by
Natalie Mamone, solidifying a strong 4-0 victory.
The Lions headed to St. Catherines to face the Brock Badgers in their second battle of the season. Brock led the first period in shots 7-6, and the game was close throughout 20 minutes of play. Brock managed a late first period goal to head into the intermission with a 1-0 lead. York squared the game in the second period off a
Julia Cuccia goal to enter the second 1-1, making it anybody's game. Brock quickly took the lead back in the third period before adding another goal on an empty net to win 3-1.Â

Lions to Watch:
#11 JULIA CUCCIA: Third-year forward... Set a career high 4 goals in her 3 goal week against the Ridgebacks and Badgers on Nov. 10 and 11... Is second in points for the Lions with 4, and is expected to double her numbers based on the pace that she has started the season on... Her ability to drive to the net to create chaos for the other team has helped her create chances for herself and the team.
#14 ALEXA GIANTSOPOULOS: Second-year forward... Scored her first goal of the season against the Ridgebacks on Nov. 10 and attempted to add another on a penalty shot on Nov. 11Â against the Badgers... Tallied an assist at Western on Oct. 21, giving her two points this season... Is a young player for York but provides a lot of speed and talent to the forward group.
