The York University Lions women's hockey team will host the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday evening in their OUA pride game, before hitting the road to St. Catherines to face the Brock Badgers. The Lions split the previous weekend, defeating the Waterloo Warriors before falling to the Guelph Gryphons away.
After a slow start to the season, the Lions were ready to welcome the Waterloo Warriors to Canlan Ice Sports on Friday evening. The puck dropped at 7:15 and the Lions were all over the puck. York's rookie,
Kaitlin Teixeira has been a solid forward so far in the red and white, showcasing her talents once again scoring the opening goal of the game 6:38 into the first period. Four minutes later,
Sara McLennan added her name to the game sheet to double the lead 2-0 heading into the second period. The Warriors were determined in the second, outshooting York 6-2 and cutting the lead in half, 2-1. The final period of action could have fallen either way, however the Lions net-minder,
Emma Wedgewood, stood tall and secured their first victory of the 2023-24 season.
On Saturday afternoon the Lions traveled to Guelph to face the Gryphons. Despite the winning feeling from the night before, the puck did not fall in favour of the Lions, being out shot 6-3 after the first period, but keeping it scoreless. Guelph found their footing in the second, quickly putting up three goals within three minutes. The third period York held the Gryphons out, until three minutes remained in the game and Guelph found the back of the net once more to win 4-0.

A great two-way player that can get the puck up the ice quick and is smart in front of the net, while also playing a key role in getting back to defend for the Lions.
#29 EMMA WEDGEWOOD: Second-year goalie... Has recorded 133 saves in 4 season games played, while recording a season high 35 saves against the Windsor Lancers on Oct. 20... In her 235:48 minutes of action, she holds a 2.45 GAA and .913 SV%.
