The York University Lions women's basketball team is preparing for a weekend in Thunder Bay to face the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday and Saturday. After two opening weekend losses, hosting the Waterloo Warriors before traveling to the Brock Badgers, the Lions are eager to secure their first victory.
On Friday evening, the Lions opened their season with a full crowd in attendance to face the Waterloo Warriors. The game was physical throughout the first quarter, with both teams using their bodies to edge out their opposition. The Warriors led the first quarter 17-10 while both teams tallied five fouls.

Katie Leudy were the second quarter leaders for the Lions, trailing 36-24 after the first half.
Kiara Leveridge was heating up in the second-half of the game, finishing with 16 points for her red and white side, despite losing 73-57.
The Lions were well oiled to start their Saturday contest against the Brock Badgers. York trailed by one point after the first quarter, 16-15, and were down by two heading into the second-half of action 31-29. The Badgers took off to open the third quarter, making a 17-3 run and establishing a larger 55-42 lead heading into the last quarter. The Badgers were persistent in the fourth, outshooting the Lions 27-9, ultimately defeating York 82-51.
