RANDHAWA GRABS GOLD AT CANADIAN WRESTLING TRIALS, QUALIFIES FOR 2024 WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

After sweeping her weight class at the 2024 Canadian Wrestling Trials in Ottawa last weekend, York University Lions women's wrestler Prabhleen Randhawa has qualified for the 2024 World Junior Championship.

Randhawa, who competed for her club team, Akhara of Champions in Mississauga, went a perfect 3-0 en route to gold in the women's 65kg weight class. In her first round match, she took down Manitoba's Anaka Chartrand by fall at 3:34.

In the semi-final, the rookie Lion won over Myah Clatney of Saskatchewan, who retired with an injury after 1:37, to advance to the gold medal match. In that match, Randhawa needed nearly six minutes, but eventually bested fellow GTA wrestler Tarleen Saroya by fall in 5:56.

Randhawa, who was the lone female Lion to compete at the U SPORTS Championships earlier this month, will head to Pontevedra, Spain, the site of the 2024 World Juniors, in late August. The championship runs Sept. 2-8.
