The York University Lions track and field team wrapped up their season on day three of the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships, leaving all of their efforts out in Winnipeg. Finishing up the weekend with the men's and women's 4x200m relay finals, men's 4x400m relay and men's triple jump, the Lions are headed back to Ontario.
Starting off the day for the Lions was the women's 4x200m relay team that qualified on Thursday after winning their preliminary round.
Janae Brown,
Alexandra Quaidoo,
Rachel Whyte and
Charlotte Murchison ran their way to a qualifying time of 1:40.88, and bested their time on Saturday, running a 1:39.67 and finishing in sixth place overall and earning three points for York.
The men's 4x200m relay team was up next after they also qualified on Thursday.
Daniel Burke,
Oluwapelumi Ogunrinde,
Ibrahim Moustafa and
Kejean Jackson ran a preliminary time of 1:31.14 and matched in the finals, finishing in 13th place overall.
The men's 4x400m relay team, consisting of members,
Daniel Burke,
Nathanael Taffese,
Ibrahim Moustafa and
Matthew Richards ran themselves to a 12th place finish with a time of 3:23.70.
To end the evening, rookie
Arwin Mathivathanan along with teammate, James Crawford, both competed in the men's triple jump. Mathivathanan had his strongest jump right from the get go with a distance of 14.69m, and finished in sixth place overall in U SPORTS, earning three points for York.
The women's team finished the weekend with a 10th place overall standing, earning 18 points, while the men's side finished in 19th with nine points over the three days.

Raymond Rudder will return the majority of his athletes for next season as the Lions will embark on another track & field season beginning in November for 2024-25.
