York University Lions track and field sprinter Tamarri Lindo has been named one of eight recipients of the 2025 Athletes on Track Bursary, as announced by U SPORTS on Wednesday in conjunction with BlackNorth Initiative and Sherrard Kuzz LLP.

The program, now in its third year, is funded through donations from Scotia Wealth Management, Roots, Wheaton Precious Metal and Canada Basketball. It provides $5,000 to each of the eight recipients selected from U SPORTS members across the country. To qualify for the program, a student-athlete must be black (Afro-Caribbean, African Canadian, and/or racialized), while also being enrolled in a Canadian university, and actively participating as a member of a U SPORTS varsity team.

Lions track and field head coach Ray Rudder says Lindo's selection is wholly indicative of who he is, and what he does, both on the track and in the classroom.

"Tamarri's selection for the Athletes on Track program speaks volumes about his resilience and dedication as a student-athlete and serves as testament to his exceptional character, strong work ethic and commitment to both academic and athletic success," said Rudder. "He is a valuable asset to the Lions track and field program and is a positive influence to his fellow student-athletes. He has used last season's difficulties and challenges as fuel to propel his hurdling ability to the next level. We are overjoyed for this small token of appreciation."

Lindo, who won a bronze medal as a rookie in 60-meter hurdles at the 2024 U SPORTS track and field championships, is in his second season of eligibility with the York track and field team. The Toronto, Ont. native is currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in health studies.
