York University Lions men's soccer player Marco Sciortino has been named one of four OUA athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 14.
Sciortino wins the award, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, after a stellar performance in the Lions convincing 4-0 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Friday in The Rose City.
Sciortino, a first-year commerce – finance major, factored in on all four goals in the win, including opening the scoring with his first career OUA goal. The Maple, Ont., native was far from done, however, as he scored two more goals, while assisting on York's third of the night off the foot of Christian Zeppieri. The hat trick was the first scored by a Lion since Sept. 7, 2023, when Tyler Attardo scored three times in a victory over the Waterloo Warriors.
Sciortino and the Lions will head back on the road Friday night to battle the aforementioned Warriors in Waterloo, as Sciortino looks to provide an encore of his three-goal performance. The Lions will then return home to battle the Guelph Gryphons in a rare Monday night affair from York Lions Stadium. You can get your tickets for that game here and watch both matches live, free of charge, on OUA.tv.
