The York University Lions wrestling team traveled to St. Catharines this past weekend to compete in the annual Brock Open, held at the Ian D. Beddis Gymnasium on January 10. Facing off against a highly competitive field, the Lions saw standout performances, ultimately securing two key finishes and valuable team points.
Leading the charge for the women's squad was Abina Dushyanthan, who put on a dominant display in the 90kg division. Dushyanthan's technical skill and resilience on the mat earned her a third-place podium finish, contributing a team-high 5.0 points to the Lions' overall score.
On the men's side, Wesam Sa'ed navigated a crowded and physical 82kg bracket to secure fourth place. Sa'ed's composure throughout his matches allowed him to grind out essential victories, adding 3.0 points to the York team total. Together, Dushyanthan and Sa'ed's performances highlighted the Lions' ability to compete with the top wrestling programs in the province.
