The York University Lions wrestling team delivered a competitive performance this past weekend at the Western Open in London, Ontario. Competing in a field of 30 teams, the Lions showcased their elite talent by securing an impressive seventh-place overall finish.

The team's success was anchored by a dual-gold performance in the heavyweight divisions, where Gurjot Sidhu claimed the top spot in the women's 90kg, while Samuel Awonuga mirrored that excellence by powering through the men's 125kg division to secure his own gold medal.

Beyond the podium's top step, the Lions relied on gritty performances across the roster to solidify their top-10 team standing. Prabhleen Randhawa battled through a tough women's 65kg bracket to earn a fourth-place finish, contributing crucial points to the team total. In the men's 57kg division, Andrew Lewis-Garraway fought his way to sixth place, further demonstrating the depth of the York program.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Up next, the team is scheduled to take on the Guelph Open next weekend.
