The York Lions Field Hockey team will look to keep the good times rolling this weekend when they face off against the Western Mustangs and the Queen's Gaels. York finds themselves currently carrying a two-game win streak and a five-game unbeaten streak heading into this weekend's action.

The Lions only loss of the season thus far came in their first game of the season against cross-town rivals, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, falling 1-0. Since that game, York has gone unbeaten, racking off four wins total with a tie mixed in between. One of those wins came last Sunday when the Lions were able to get revenge over the Varsity Blues, winning 4-1 at home on Alumni Field.

Firstly, York will take on the Western Mustangs at York's Alumni Field. Historically, York has dominated this matchup in Field Hockey as Western has not beaten the Lions since 2016. Statistically, this match also favours the Lions. York averages more goals per game (2.7) than Western averages shots per game (2.0). Western also allows the most goals per game with 5.83 while York allows the second fewest goals per game with 0.58. Western is also still looking for their first win of the season as they currently sit 0-5-1. History and numbers favour the Lions, but nothing is ever guaranteed in sports.

On Sunday, York will travel to Kingston to face-off against the Queen's Gaels. This matchup is also another one the Lions have dominated recently. York has not lost to Queen's in Field Hockey since 2014 when Queen's defeated the Lions in the OUA Bronze Medal match for 2014. Last season, York shutout the Gaels in back-to-back games, winning 3-0 and following it up with a 5-0 win the next day. Statistically, Queen's are a team that has struggled to get much going offensively. The Gaels are averaging only 1.3 shots per game compared to York's 12.8. Queen's does make their shots count when they get them as they do have an 87.5% shooting percentage, the highest in the OUA.

Saturday's game on October 3rd at Alumni field is scheduled to start at 11 AM EST. Sunday's game on October 4th in Kingston is scheduled to start at 12 PM EST. A win in both games would move the Lions to 6-1-1 on the season and creep them closer to catching the Waterloo Warriors for first place in the OUA.
