The York Lions Women's Hockey team will look to bounce back this weekend as they have yet another doubleheader on the schedule. Last weekend, the Lions traveled to Waterloo to play at both schools for the first time this season.
The Lions first faced off against the Waterloo Warriors. It was a hard-fought contest between both sides, but ultimately the Warriors got the better of the Lions, securing a 2-0 win. York then went on to face the Laurier Golden Hawks the following night. In another close fought game, the Hawks were also able to secure a two-goal win by a score of 3-1, leaving the Lions still searching for their first win of the season.
This weekend the Lions find themselves back at home as they're hosting both of their games at Canlan Ice Sports. Their first contest is against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. The Ridgebacks find themselves 1-3 to start the season, as this will be a battle of two teams looking to turn their seasons around. When these two teams faced off last season, Ontario Tech was able to get the better of York on both occasions, as they won both games the two teams played, sweeping the season series. The Lions will try and change that result this time around, starting by winning this matchup on Friday night.
On Saturday, York will then host the Queen's Gaels for a Saturday Night Hockey showdown. Queens has started the season off very well so far, as they find themselves 3-1 so far on the year while also not having allowed more than two goals in a game so far this season. When these two sides faced off last year, it was also a matchup that favoured the Gaels, as they were able to win both games against the Lions and sweep the season series.
York will have plenty of opportunities to avenge those losses this weekend and secure their first win of the season. Friday's game against Ontario Tech is scheduled for 7 PM EST while Saturday's game against Queens is scheduled also for 7 PM EST. Tickets are available at yorkulions.ca/tickets for those interested in attending. Both games will also be available to stream on OUA.tv for all those interested in cheering on the Lions this weekend.
