The York University Lions track and field team travels to Winnipeg for the 2026 U SPORTS. Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Manitoba from March 5 to March 7. A contingent of 30 athletes will represent the Lions following a successful showing at the OUA provincial championships, where several team members secured podium finishes and conference honours.

The women's team enters the national championships following a strong provincial circuit. Alexandra Quaidoo earned an individual bronze in the 300m with a time of 40.12 seconds and contributed to a silver-medal performance in the 4x200m relay alongside Janae Brown, Charlotte Murchison, and Kyla Sleath, finishing in 1:40.61. The women's 4x400m relay squad, featuring Jenna Ibrahim, Hillary Ojo, Murchison, and Sophia DiMarino, rounded out the podium finishes with a bronze medal in 3:49.97. The Lions will look to hold their momentum from the relays into the U SPORTS meet.

The men's performance in the field events was led by All-Star Arwin Mathivathanan, who claimed the OUA triple jump title with a mark of 15.67m. He was joined on the podium by teammates Jamie Crawford, another All-Star who took silver with a jump of 14.84m, and Williams Kalu, who earned bronze with a 14.72m result. Additional field accolades included silver medals for high jumper Tristan Boateng, who cleared 2.14m, and weight thrower Zac Osborne, who recorded a toss of 17.55m to earn All-Star status. In the pole vault, Liam West added to the Lions' medal count by securing bronze with a height of 4.80m. York's field athletes will look towards the national championships hungry knowing they have a final moment to perform.

On the track, the men's sprint program produced multiple individual and relay successes. Cameron Christian earned All-Star honours with a silver-medal time of 6.74 seconds in the 60m. Brandon Choumbe Yami also secured individual silver in the 300m, finishing in 34.41 seconds. Both athletes were integral to the men's relay results; Choumbe Yami and Christian teamed with Ibrahim Moustafa and Samuel Pinceau, who also took individual bronze in the 60m hurdles in 7.90 seconds to win gold in the 4x200m relay with a time of 1:27.47. The men's 4x400m relay team, consisting of Moustafa, Nathanael Taffese, Jesse St. Louis-Evans, and Choumbe Yami, concluded the provincial meet with a bronze-medal finish in 3:17.14. The women's and men's relays were a highlight for the Lions at the provincial championships, and now sending these athletes to the national stage excitement is running high knowing what the Lions are capable of when the pressure in on.
