The Lions were defeated by the Badgers by a score of 82-64 last year, when Brock was ranked No. 8 in U SPORTS. The Badgers have won two in a row against the Lions, and before that the Lions were victorious in three straight, including a 101-89 result in 2015.

York's biggest win last year came over the No. 10 Marauders, a thrilling road victory in which the Lions sank a buzzer-beating three-pointer to steal the 71-68 win. Prior to last season's triumph, the Lions had dropped eight straight to McMaster dating back to an 81-78 victory during the 2007-08 season.

- The Lions gave new head coach Nate Philippe a win in his first regular-season game, putting up a huge third quarter to win 90-78 over the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The Lions trailed by three at the half but outscored them 29-16 in the third to win.
- The 90 points scored by the Lions was tied for the second-highest total in the OUA during the opening week of the season.
- The Lions had an impressive pre-season, going 8-5 against opponents from U SPORTS, CCAA and the United States. Their victories over U SPORTS opponents included wins over Memorial, UNB, Lethbridge and MacEwan.
- After this weekend, the Lions will head out on the road for four straight before returning home. Their trip will take them to Guelph, Algoma, Laurier and Waterloo.

Brock
- Brock began the year with a pair of victories over Windsor and Laurier last weekend. The game with the Mustangs was never in doubt as the Badgers outscored them in every quarter to win 83-58. They also won three of four quarters against the Golden Hawks in an 80-70 triumph.
- The Badgers opened the season ranked No. 2 in the U SPORTS poll this week.
- The Badgers were one of the best defensive teams in the OUA last season, ranking fourth in the conference with 69.3 points allowed per game. They were also seventh in scoring with 75 points per game.
- The Badgers won the OUA bronze medal last year after finishing fourth in the regular season and upsetting Ottawa in the third-place game.

McMaster
- The Marauders opened the season with an 84-79 victory over the Guelph Gryphons. The Marauders used strong first and third quarters to put the Gryphons away.
- Like the Lions, the Badgers are playing under a new head coach this year in Patrick Tatham, who was previously an assistant with the Ryerson Rams.
- Last year, the Marauders ranked in the OUA's top seven in scoring and defence. They were fifth with 76 points per game and seventh with 76.5 points allowed per game.
- The Marauders finished ninth in the OUA last season and upset Windsor in the first round of the playoffs before falling to the Carleton Ravens in the quarter-finals.

G Chevon Brown – Led the Lions in scoring in his debut game with the team last week. He put up 18 points and also added four rebounds, one block and one steal in 25 minutes of play. His 18 points are tied for the third-best mark in the OUA thus far.

F Brandon Ramirez – After a career year as a sophomore, he came out strong to start this season with 13 points and nine rebounds in the opener. He averaged 14.3 points and 6.3 rebounds last year, ranking 21
st and 18
th in the OUA, respectively.

F Dani Elgadi – The three-time OUA all-star and former rookie of the year led the Badgers in scoring last year with 14.7 points per game, tying him for 18
th in the OUA. He is averaging 14.5 points through their first two contests this season.

F Cassidy Ryan – Averaged 17.5 points over two games last week, the sixth best mark in the OUA on opening weekend. Last year he was fourth on the team with nine points per game.

G Miles Seward – The rookie guard began his career in style, putting up 23 points in the win over the Gryphons, the second-best total in the OUA on opening weekend.
