Four York University Lions student-athletes have been selected as the recipients of the 2019 Lions Legacy Awards. These athletes will be honoured at the annual varsity banquet on Thursday, April 4.

These awards will be presented to the graduating student-athletes who have, throughout the undergraduate years, made outstanding contributions to varsity sport at York University. Leadership, dedication, enthusiasm and participation in all aspects of varsity sport will be considered qualifications for this award.

Cadence Currie – VolleyballÂ
- 5-year player with volleyball team as both an outside hitter and libero
- Appeared in 88 games in career and earned 330 points and 660 digs over the course of her career
- Academic all-Canadian (2017-18)
- Maintained AFA status for all five years
- Women's volleyball academic lead and captain of academics. Guides team study hall hours and conducts athlete check-ins
- PAWS mentor
- Member of York Sport Council, Lions Leadership and Athletes in Action
- Active contributor to Shoreham sports clinics and the women's volleyball Reading Buddies program
- Driving force behind Lions 4 Lions initiatives with the women's volleyball program

Bailey Francis – Track & Field
- 4-years on Lions track & field team
- Active member of York Sport Council
- Maintained a B+ average throughout four years at York
- Selected to be part of President Ambassador program for emerging student leaders at York
- Member of Stong Council and Residence Council for past three years and participated in many intramural sports
- Volunteered time with local homeless shelters, FEAT – an outreach program for children with incarcerated parents, Elizabeth Fry – a support group for women and girls affected by the justice system and Special Olympics Ontario
- Positive influence on her teammates and assisted coaches with video analysis at meets when she not competing
- Finished in the top-10 at OUA championships the last three years, including a career-best 5th place in triple jump this year. Competed at U SPORTS championships the last two years

Jenna Gray – HockeyÂ
- 5-year defenceman, never missed a game and played in all 120 games of her career.
- Scored 39 points (9 goals, 30 assists) in career
- 2018-19 U SPORTS Student-Athlete Community Service Award winner for excellence in athletics, academics and sport leadership
- 2018-19 OUA Marion Hilliard Award winner for excellence in athletics, academics and sport leadership
- OUA second-team all-star (2018-19)
- Academic all-Canadian (2017-18)
- PAWS Mentor
- Team captain for two seasons (2017-19), assistant captain in 2016-17 and member of team's leadership group from 2015-19
- York Sport Council executive member – special events
- Played a large role in the organization and execution of HEROS (Hockey Education Reaching Out Society) which gives local children from the Jane/Finch community the opportunity to play hockey as an education and leadership vehicle
- Helped organize the women's hockey team's Halloween for Hunger event this year

Sara Vollmerhausen – Field Hockey
- 5-year player on field hockey team
- U SPORTS all-Canadian (2018)
- 2018 U SPORTS Fair Play Award recipient
- OUA all-star (2018)
- 2-time OUA champion
- 2-time U SPORTS silver medalist
- Team captain in 2018 and assistant captain in 2017
- York Sport Council Member for all 5 years, 2018-19 Executive Sport Council member in charge of Lions 4 Lions
- Participated in Lions adopt-a-family program, Shoreham sports clinics, Santa Claus Parade and field hockey team fundraisers – including first ever field hockey game for the cure which raised over $1000
- Worked as work-study student in Facility Operations for one year and has worked as groundskeeper for three years on York campus
- Organized study hall for field hockey team
- Instrumental in organizing first ever team lifts in the varsity gym
