Cynthia Appiah, a 2013 graduate of York University, has been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. This marks her second consecutive Olympic appearance. Appiah made her official Olympic debut at the Beijing 2022 Games; however, her Olympic trajectory began at the PyeongChang 2018 Games, where she served as an alternate brake woman.
Before transitioning to bobsleigh, Appiah was a member of the York Lions track and field team for five seasons. Between 2008 and 2013, she earned five CIS medals and six OUA medals and was named York's Female Athlete of the Year in 2013. Her collegiate record includes an OUA gold medal in the weight throw in 2011 and three CIS silver medals in the shot put. During her tenure, she was recognized as a four-time CIS All-Canadian and a three-time OUA All-Star.
Appiah enters the 2026 Games following a silver-medal performance in the women's monobob at the IBSF World Cup in Winterberg, Germany, earlier this January. She finished with a two-heat time of 1:58.53, matching her career-best showing and marking her eighth career World Cup medal in the discipline. She joins a Canadian bobsleigh program that has secured 10 Olympic medals since 1964, including five golds, two silvers, and three bronzes.
The women's monobob competition is scheduled for February 15–16. Following this, the two-woman bobsleigh race will be held on February 20–21, where Appiah will compete as a bobsleigh pilot.
