LIONS WELCOME IN TOP TWO OUA EAST TEAMS, GEE-GEES AND RAVENS, TO CLOSE OUT FALL TERM

The York University Lions men's basketball team is wrapping up their fall term by hosting the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens, the top two seeded OUA East teams. In a home-and-home weekend against the Toronto Varsity Blues, the series was split with the Lions securing a tight double overtime win in game two.

In the Lions school day game early Friday afternoon, the Toronto Varsity Blues came to Tait McKenzie Centre, the first of a weekend series. York lead through the first quarter 26-21, but the Blues rebounded in the second playing strong defence to hold the Lions to only 11 points, leading the first half 48-37. The Lions came out strong in the third quarter to take the lead back, but it was all Blues again in the fourth, to win the game 85-71 heading back to Toronto for game two.

In the second of a home-and-home series, the Lions travelled to in-town rivals, the Toronto Varsity Blues, where Evan Shadkami and Josh Noton stole the show. The Blues won the first quarter but the Lions battled back to tie the second quarter, with the Blues having the first half edge, 46-39. York battled throughout the second half to tie the game up 86-86, requiring additional time to decided a winner. Two relentless offensive sides tied the first period of overtime 9-9, before the Lions stole the second period of overtime and won the game 112-108.

In his 116 minutes of time on the court, he has 6 assists, 3 blocks, 5 steals, 18 total rebounds and 39 points for an average 7.8 points per game and 13.4 points per 40 minutes... A transfer from Southern Connecticut State University (NCAA), he has fit right into the mold of the York Lions system in his 5 games played.

#3 TRAVON HAMILTON: Third-year guard... Making 8 appearances for the Lions this season and seeing 127 minutes on the court, he has tallied 57 points and 24 assists... He is 14-21 from the free throw line, wwhile collecting 4 offensive rebounds, 11 defensive rebounds and 8 steals... He helped lead the Lions to their double overtime win on Nov. 25 against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
