After extending their win streak to five games, defeating the sixth seeded Laurier Golden Hawks, the Lions are back on the road against the TMU Bold in a home-and-home series. In their final week of game action for the regular season, York are looking comfortable in a playoff spot, but have the potential to win the OUA Central division.
On Wednesday evening, the Lions had three double-digit scorers to earn them the 97-88 victory over the Guelph Gryphons.
Josh Noton led the way with 35 points, followed closely by
Evan Shadkami with 28, and
Elias Panagiotopoulos who tallied 12, earning 75 of the teams 97 points. Taking a 10-point lead in the first quarter, the Lions continued to extend their lead through to half time 51-36. The visiting side came out with vengeance in the third quarter, earning their most amounts of points in a quarter, 35 and taking the lead 71-67. York responded in the final 10 minutes, outscoring Guelph 11-5 in the final three minutes, and earning a home victory.
A Saturday evening on the road in Waterloo against the Laurier Golden Hawks, the Lions earned their fifth straight win, an accomplishment they have not seen since 2006, when the team won six-straight from Nov. 11-Dec. 1, 2006. Another large achievement for York as the last time they defeated the Golden Hawks was Nov. 16 2013, and 11 years later, the Lions took a one-point win, 81-80. Shadkami and Noton came out again to perform on their A-game, scoring 59 of the teams 81 points. With his 37 points on the night, Shadkami earned his way into U SPORTS top 50 all-time scorers.

Playing and starting in all 20 games, he leads the OUA in minutes played (723), FG made (150-354), and 3PT made (76-158), while his 445 points is second most in the OUA and he is third with 22.3 points per game... For the sixth time this season on Feb. 10, he scored over 30 points in a game, with his season high coming on Nov. 25 against Toronto... His 37 points earned on Feb. 10 against Laurier shot him into the U SPORTS top 50 all-time scorers, and he earned York Male Athlete of the Week honours for the period ending Feb. 11.
#2 JOSH NOTON: Fourth-year guard... Playing and starting in all 20 games for the Lions in his first year with the red & white, he is second in the OUA in FT percent (89.5), shooting 94-105 from the line, fifth best numbers in the league... His 60 assists is tied with Shadkami for 13th in the OUA, while recording 365 points, and 18.3 points per game, both of which are seventh in the OUA... He recorded a seasons high 35 points on Feb. 7 against the Guelph Gryphons in the Lions 97-88 victory, shooting 5-5 FT, 4-7 3PT and 13-19 FG... For his incredible last two performances, he earned York Male Athlete of the Week honours for the period ending Feb. 11.
