York University Lions swimmer
Hasseb Tariq broke two York records this past week while competing at the 13
th FINA world swimming championships (25m) in Windsor, Ont.

The third-year swimmer from North York, Ont., competing at the world championships while representing his native Pakistan, set records in both events he competed in. In the men's 50m backstroke, Tariq finished in 45
th place with a time of 25.93 seconds and in the 100m backstroke he was 47
th in a time of 56.79.

Both records were also Pakistani national records.

Tariq was already the York record holder in both events as he previously set new standards at the University of Toronto's quad meet in late November, where he won a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke. One weekend earlier, he competed at the OUA divisional championships and earned a silver medal in the same event and qualified for the U Sports championships in the spring.
