The awards keep on coming for York University Lions men's swimmer Eric Ginzburg.
After winning four (more) OUA championship medals this past weekend, including three gold, and breaking his own conference championship record, the fourth-year fly and freestyle specialist was named the men's swimmer of the year and earned an OUA award of distinction for having medalled in three OUA championships.
Those efforts earned the Toronto, Ont., native York the York men's athlete of the week award this week and, on Tuesday, he was announced as one of six OUA athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 22 after a busy weekend of championships for the conference. The kinesiology and health science student wins that award for the second time, the first coming in 2024 after he swept all four of his events at that year's championship.
This time around, Ginzburg won the 50m fly, 100m fly and 100m freestyle events, besting his own meet record in the 100m fly by nearly two tenths of a second. He took the gold in just 50.22 seconds, bettering his 2025 record of 50.41. Though he came up short in the 50m freestyle race, he brings his OUA championship medal count to 15 – eight golds, six silvers and one bronze – solidifying his place among York's best all time in the pool.
He will look to add to his national championship medal count at the U SPORTS swimming championships, taking place from Mar. 12-14 at the Markham Pan Am Centre.
