COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Our Community Initiatives and Connections

Sport Council is involved with many communities on and off campus. Our biggest connection is with the Jane and Finch Community centre where we collaborate with them to run our Adopt a Family initiative around the holidays. This is an initiative where our Varsity teams fundraise money and purchase gifts for families in need during the holiday season.

We also connect with the local elementary school, Shoreham Public School. We designate one week per semester as our “Shoreham week”. This is where a different Varsity team runs a sport clinic each day of the week during the lunch period at Shoreham. This program provides an opportunity for our Varsity athletes to help the youth in our community grow and learn the values of sport.

Finally, Sport Council has recently formed a connection with the YFS Food Bank on our York University campus. Every year during the month of October, our Varsity teams collect non-perishable foods to donate to the YFS Food Bank. We call this our Halloween for Hunger initiative, and it helps our direct York community.
