David Smith led York’s cross country team to gold in the OIAA championships in 1967 through 1970, finishing first individually each year. A two-time national champion, he also won the individual title at the CIAU cross country meet in 1968 and again in 1970 when he returned to York to pursue a Master of Business Administration degree. He served as the first President of the Men’s Interuniversity Athletic Council in 1968-69 and was named athlete of the year that same year.
