Nicole Masil was a member of York's cross country and track and field teams from 1989 to 1991. A two-time OWIAA all-star and CIAU all-Canadian, she won a total of seven CIAU gold medals and eight OWIAA gold medals. York's female athlete of the year in 1989-90 and a member of the 1989-90 CIAU championship track and field team, Masil still holds the school record in the 1000m event. In 1991, she became the first woman to win three gold medals in the distance events at the CIAU level (600m, 1000m, 1500m). The 1991 outdoor and 1992 indoor Canadian national champion in the 800m, she was also a member of the 1991 Canadian World University Games team. Masil obtained a BA in psychology in 1991, a BSW (Honours) in 2000 and a MSW in 2003.
