Samantha Hellens (BA '96) was a striker for the York women's soccer team for five seasons (1990-94). She helped the squad win the provincial bronze medal in 1990, representing only the second medal in program history. Throughout her career she was a two-time CIAU all-Canadian (1991-92) – at the time she was only the third York women's soccer player to earn the honour – and she was also a three-time OWIAA all-star (1990-92). She also had one of the best seasons ever for a York striker, scoring 17 goals in 10 games in 1991. Hellens also spent one season as an assistant coach with the program after retiring from playing.
