Sarah Fobes (BA '98) backstopped the York field hockey team to three provincial championships (1993-94, 1996) and a bronze medal (1997) in her five seasons as the goalkeeper for the program. The squad qualified for the national championship in each of those five years, winning a silver medal in 1994. She earned four OWIAA/OUA all-star selections and was a three-time CIAU all-Canadian (1994, 1996-97), and was the co-recipient of the national Gail Wilson Award for outstanding contribution in 1997. She also played indoor hockey while at York, earning OWIAA/OUA all-star honours in each of her five seasons while winning three provincial championships and two silver medals. Forbes concluded her career at York by being named the female athlete of the year in 1998 and went on to a celebrated international career. She won the bronze medal with Team Canada at the 1999 Pan American Games and also represented Canada at three Commonwealth Games (1998, 2002, 2006) and two other Pan American Games (2003, 2007).
